Living Root exists to give adult readers, most of them past 40, plain and well-sourced information about the everyday foundations of good health. This page explains how we work and how to hold us to it.

Our purpose

We write about the habits that hold up over decades: sleep, movement, food, daylight, balance, strength, attention, and the people around us. Our interest is in what public health institutions and medical organizations have found, and in how an ordinary person can act on it within an ordinary week.

Who writes Living Root

Articles are researched, written, and edited by the Living Root editorial team on behalf of ZN Digital Ventures LLC. We are writers and editors, not clinicians, and we do not present ourselves otherwise. Our job is to read carefully, summarize honestly, and write clearly. We use software tools to help organize research, produce our illustrations, and check our writing; every article is planned, written, reviewed, and approved by the editorial team.

How we choose topics

We favor topics where the guidance from major institutions is stable and practical, where a reader can reasonably act on the information without special equipment or expense, and where the risk of harm from a general article is low. We avoid topics that require individual medical judgment to be useful, and we do not write about specific medications, diagnoses, or dosing.

Our sourcing standards

  • We rely on primary guidance from public health institutions and established medical organizations, such as the National Institutes of Health and its institutes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Mayo Clinic.
  • Every article ends with a Sources section naming the institutions whose material informed it.
  • We do not cite anonymous experts, unpublished claims, or statistics we cannot trace to a named institution. If we cannot source a number, we do not print it.
  • Articles are written by the editorial team and illustrated with original graphics rather than photographs.

How we write about evidence

Health research rarely offers certainty, and we do not pretend it does. We use conditional language such as "is associated with," "research suggests," and "may support." We do not promise outcomes, we do not attach numbers or timeframes to results, and we do not use fear, shame, or urgency to hold a reader's attention. When evidence is mixed or evolving, we say so.

Readability

Most of our readers are over 40, and many are over 60. We write in plain American English, at a comfortable text size, with high contrast and generous spacing, and we test every page on phones as well as desktops. If something on the Site is hard to read, we want to know.

Independence from advertising

The Site is supported by advertising, and we may promote our own articles on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to reach readers. Advertising never influences which topics we cover or what we say about them. Sponsored content, when we publish it, is labeled "Sponsored" at the top of the page and kept separate from editorial articles. Advertisers have no say in our topics, sources, or wording. See our Advertising Disclosure for details.

Review and updates

Each article shows its original publication date and, when applicable, the date it was last updated. We re-read articles periodically against current guidance from the institutions we cite. When guidance changes materially, we update the article and note the change.

Corrections

We make mistakes, and we would rather fix them than defend them. If you find an error of fact, an outdated recommendation, a broken link, or a misattributed source, email contact@livingroot.online with the article title and the issue. We review every correction request. When a correction is warranted, we fix the text and add a dated correction note to the article explaining what changed. Corrections that affect the substance of an article are noted at the top; minor fixes such as typos are noted at the bottom.

Reader questions

We welcome questions and suggestions for topics. We cannot answer individual medical questions or give personal advice; those belong with your healthcare provider. See our Health Disclaimer.
